Founded in 1989, by Master Albert Smythe, the Olympian Safety Program teaches safety and awareness to children and adults. The program has been taught in the public and catholic schools, as well as in the community.

Master Smythe is a 5th degree black belt and one of Canada's few Olympians in Taekwondo. He has been involved in martial arts for over 25 years as a competitor and as an instructor. He began his martial arts training in 1980 under Grand Master Choung Young Su at the Young Choung Taekwondo Academy in Toronto. Since then Master Smythe went on to receive many medals and awards. Here are a few:

  • 1988 Olympic Games (Seoul, Korea)
  • 8-Time Provincial Champion
  • 1985 Can-Am Champion
  • 1988 Canadian Champion
  • 1989 Pan American Medalist
  • 1990 World Cup Member (Cairo, Egypt)
  • Non-violent Crisis Intervention Training
As one of Canada's Olympians, I know what it takes to develop and sustain a healthy lifestyle in order to be your personal best. I also know that there are many obstacles that children and adults face each day; this is why I have committed myself to creating a program for the safety of all.

It is essential to know how to protect yourself in dangerous situations. The Olympian Safety Program teaches simple but effective techniques and strategies that you can use if you are in a difficult situation. Our intention is not to instill fear, but to provide effective and empowering safety techniques to raise awareness and make safe choices.
